What to do with "failed" creations?

So, I'm a relatively novice knitter. I've been at it for 3 ish years now, but I have periods of 2-3 months where I want to work on things daily, and then I put them away for the other 9-10 months of the year. I don't know why I do this. Anyway, I've made some things that I'm less than thrilled with. For example, I knitted a beanie two months ago that ended up being too short and looks almost like a kippah. Stuff like that, that I wouldn't personally wear, but would be a huge waste to throw away or just have sit around. Does anyone have any ideas on how to upcycle these things, or if theres any good charities that would be willing to take poorly made hats?
