Sound Issues as of Ashe patch

News & Discussion

So before this patch, my game was running perfectly. No sound issues, no packet loss. Just smooth sailing. But ever since Ashe was introduced, my game has taken a downgrade in a lot of ways, one being that my sounds are bugged.

I know this has been going on for a while as I see posts from 2016-now talking about it. Basically, ult sounds, hitmarker sounds, incoming damage notifications, and the announcer will randomly not sound off or be cut off in some way. For instance, I can sometimes hear the whistle during McCree's ult, but not the voice line, even though he is right next to me. Or, sometimes the ult won't sound at all and I'll have a B.O.B charge at me full speed and kill me.

I have tried:

  • Reinstalling the game
  • Turning on/off Dolby Atmos
  • Turning on/off Limit Client Send/Receive Rate
  • Uninstalling 3rd party sound apps (SteelSeries Engine for me)
  • Scan and Fix
  • Resetting my network adapted
  • Contacting my ISP
  • Used different headphones
  • Deleted the settings file

and yet nothing has worked. My game has never had these issues in the more than two years I've played, and it's quite a handicap when you can't dodge the ults in time because you couldn't hear it.

If anyone else is having issues like these, please let me know. And if you have a solution that isn't listed above, that'd be great.

P.S. I'm not sure if this is in any way related, but I'll have sporadic latency spikes from ~50 to ~100 and my Packet Loss In hovers around ~10% during the match. However, the sound issues don't seem to line up with the ping spikes, and the only thing I can think of is the packet loss, but when I go to Blizzard's Looking Glass tool, it shows I have 0% loss, so I don't even know if the in game stats are right or not.
