After Action Review
Presented to: Office of the War Department, c/o LTC Mazarbul
Regarding the events of the night of 04DEC18
What should have happened: Lord Commander Beilein conducts review of shipbuilding activities vicinity Navy Pier, Chicago. Transportation via ferry from Traverse City with light escort. Open ranks inspection of local troops, followed by award ceremony/social event in the former Sears Tower. LC Beilein retires 2345 to local lodging.
What did happen: Lord Commander Belein departs Traverse City on time at 1600 on Destoyer Webber. Route clearance is not performed due to relaxed security posture. Air support is not requested, though on standby. 2 freshwater swiftboats in support, as well as Cruiser Rose. At approximately 2100, on approach to Chicago, 5 AW159 maritime helicopters approach from vicinity Evanston. Lead swiftboat signals warning to group but is almost immediately neutralized. Evasive maneuvers taken and Cruiser Rose moves to engage with anti-air assets. Destroyer Webber maximized speed to seek cover of shoreline defenses. Fighters scrambled by 2105 from vicinity Dayton. Helicopters engage barrage of anti-surface and torpedo based weapon systems. Cruiser Rose and remaining gunship are total losses, but succeed in destroying 4 of the 5 attacking aircraft. Air support unable to reach battlespace in time. The final remaining assaulting force was left with one shot remaining, bearing on fleeing Destroyer Webber with LC Beilein on board. Successful targeting, launch, and.... miss. Lord Commander Beilein reaches Navy Pier and immediately moved to secured location.
Lessons Learned: Elements of Northwestern's forces still harbor resentment, and were unwilling to unite under the B1G flag. Sea-based helicopters on lease from the Royal Navy were used in the assault. A successful attack on Lord Commander Beilein would have the potential to unravel the entire Michigan/B1G empire. Not all tribes have yet fully committed to a B1G alliance. Expect further resistance from other tribes before ultimate assimilation. Only Purdue can be fully trusted at this point. Active air support and vigilance are a must; underestimating the danger of any movement could prove calamitous.
