Do the books get any better?

I’ve been stuck with Blood of Elves on and off for months now (after having also read The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny); I can’t seem to ever finish it. There’s almost no description of setting or characters, and I’m left having to imagine the scenes on my own with little to go off of other than dialogue.
