[Question] When steaming vegetables in a pot with a steamer basket, does adding butter or salt to the boiling water below contribute at all to the flavor of vegetables being steamed above?

My stance is that it should have no effect. The steam is water as pure as any distillation method.

However, since the smell of butter would be present in the pot, then butter particles could be imparting some essence into the vegetables?
