Getting prepared for a puppy

Hi all,

I’m looking to get a puppy in the spring/summer of 2019, i have a male cat that my family adopted would a female puppy be a better choice as opposed to male? Also I’m debating on blue buffalo or royal canine anyone have a better experience with either food?
