What's the deal with Hori Battle Pads? Are they severely out of stock or all varieties not out yet?

I am picking up Smash tomorrow night and currently have a GCN controller and adapter sitting in a box waiting for me to open them. I just saw yesterday that Hori released a Battle Pad for Switch and it has an additional shoulder button and is getting pretty good reviews so I may return the GCN controller/adapter to save a little bit of money.

Everywhere I'm looking all editions of the Hori are out of stock except the Picachu yellow Battle Pad which I'm not really digging (I felt creepy holding it at Target tonight). I read somewhere on Reddit from a user that Hori Battle Pads are not on sale until December 7th, which doesn't make sense as I clearly see the Picachu one at Target, but all other versions are out of stock at Amazon/Target.

Couple questions

1. Are all editions of the Battle Pad now for sale in stores or are some coming out this Friday?

2. Anyone get their hands on one? What do you think of it versus the official GCN controller?

3. If I keep the GCN/adapter and end up not really digging smash I imagine I can get most of what I paid back on Craigslist?
