Columbia's Liberal Asian American Alliance shows they prioritize black activism over AA issues.
A few day sago, Nimesh Patel, an Asian American writer for SNL, was invited by Columbia University's Asian American Alliance group to perform a stand-up set, and had his mic cut and was booted off stage by the group when he got into a joke about being black and gay.
" no one looks in the mirror and thinks, ‘this black thing is too easy, let me just add another thing to it.’”
This article describing the event is written by members of Columbia's Asian American Alliance group, which is as you would expect composed of uber "progressive" liberal asians who spend more time being concerned about black activism than any sort of issues pertaining to the AA experience.
This particular quote from this account of events stands out to me.
" To me, his routine was strangely obsessed with Black people, my favorite part being when he questioned why there was so much online outrage that Black actors weren’t nominated at the Oscars in 2016, but not for Asian actors. Patel’s anti-Blackness jumped out: The hashtag was #OscarsSoWhite, not #OscarsNotBlack.
His blatant anti-Blackness leads me to the most talked about part of the performance."
If this were a black comedian making an asian small dick joke, you can bet they would let him continue with the set and probably share in the laughs. But nope, any joke even mentioning a black and gay experience regardless of whether its harmless, will be deemed racist and inappropriate.
