THE PROMPT

"It is better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven" spoke the gold embossed plaque when one entered the law offices of Milton & Alighieri, LLP. The two founding partners, the last descendants of two of the most infamous poets in literature, were rarely seen together. They stalked among the hallways, the marble offices, the perfectly laid carpets, the immaculate lighting. And yet, no one saw them together.

Kevin Milton was the junior and preferred to remain the face of the firm. He would be seen and heard. Andrew Alighieri was the silent force. He would neither be seen or heard, but felt through the office. An intangible power that required no threats or dialogue. One that ruled with an invisible fist.

Only the best and brightest young lawyers were recruited to the firm. They needed sharp intellect, an understanding of the power of free will, an introspective quality where they could comprehend their own vanities and most of all, they needed to be exceptionally beautiful. Vain, indeed.

With all of this in mind, you wonder why you submitted you resume. It was near impossible to even get an interview. And yet, here you were on the 75th floor of a towering skyscraper in the lush lobby of the firm, awaiting the test of a lifetime.
