What does NEC say for 220v 20amp outdoor receptacle?

Hey there,

Tl;dr questions:

• what does NEC say about 220v 20amp accepting a 6-20 plug in an outside / wet location?
• are there any Nema 3r boxes specifically designed for this use case? I see a lot of Nema 3r boxes for 30 or 50 amp receptacles but I’m not finding them for 20 amp

Description:

I have a plug-in hybrid and I want to get a level 2 charger for it. The cars spec says it can charge, maximum, 220v at 20amps.

I was originally going to buy a big ev charger capable of 30 or 50 amps but that’s just overkill for my current needs.

There are level two chargers that use 6-20 plugs that can handle a 16 amp charge and that would be perfect for my car

So I want to run an outlet outside (no garage) that will handle that.
