New Grads in Emergency Medicine
I will be graduating in about 8 months and so applying for jobs will be here sooner than later. Had a few questions for any EM providers here as to how difficult it is to get a job in emergency medicine as a new grad. After having my rotation in EM, i know its what i'd like to do. My second choice is surgery which is plentiful for jobs in my area. However, from my understanding, it is difficult to get a job in EM especially for new grads due to pace and expected autonomy. Much of my class is interested in emergency medicine and it is competitive.
Does anyone have any suggestions or insight on getting into emergency medicine as a new grad? For example, if hospital systems or medical staffing companies are more welcoming to new grads? If there are certain companies known to hire them?
I do have more of an interest in practicing in rural communities, however, i am unsure if that has much bearing in hiring a new grad as those areas also tend to require PAs to practice with more autonomy due to short staffing.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
