University Housing Troubles
I am a Freshman at UC Santa Barbara. My roommate has his girlfriend over every weekend which me and my other roommate are not ok with. We have asked him on many occasions to stop, but he has not. They’re inconsiderate and have sex wether my roommate or I are in the room or not. This is against the housing contract. Someone can only have registered overnight guests over if the roommates agree, no more than 3 days in a row, and no more than 7 nights a quarter. We got RAs involved and they took his side because my roommate and I were “ganging up” on him. We’re not. The last conversation we had he started to yell at me and stormed out mid conversation. I went to the assistant residential director and told her I didn’t feel safe in my room. She then met with him and took his side. He played the victim card yet again. I was told to move out or deal with it because he has a “right to have guests over”. If a roommate says no to overnight guests their word goes. However I have learned that the ard did not record our meeting and told her boss that I did not report feeling unsafe or uncomfortable in our room. I was basically given the option to live there under the same conditions or move out. While this all went down I could not write my essay due today due to extreme stress, and my roommate is practically having a mental breakdown. Yet the housing is doing nothing to help us even though the only person breaking the housing contract is the problem roommate. It feels like we’re being punished for the other roommate breaking the housing contract. Would a lawsuit be possible in this situation?
Edit: needed to add my location. I’m in Isla Vista, California
