Elevated Troponin I
Age: 25
Sex: F
Height: 5'3
Weight: 138
Race: Caucasian
Duration of complaint: Nov. 24th - present
I don't do any drugs or drink alcohol more than 2-3 times a week. I am not taking any supplements or medication other than advil for headaches and excedrin migraine for occasional migraines. I have no history of heart problems. On Saturday November 24th in the evening I was laying in bed watching TV when I went to get some water and get my pajamas on in the bathroom. I felt a little uncomfortable in my chest area and felt a little like my heart was fluttering. I then felt very nauseous and had a very hard headache and thought I was about to vomit. All of the sudden I got tunnel vision and passed out. I woke to my boyfriend banging on the door and then I don't really remember much of what I said but I knew I just needed to lay down and my heart didn't stop pounding out of my chest for about 20 minutes after that. My boyfriend thinks I was out for about 15 seconds and he said he could hear me making noises. I didn't feel dehydrated and I was sober. I did not go to the hospital because I figured for some reason if it didn't happen again I was in the clear.
The next day I woke up with chest tightness like I had been sleeping with my rib cage pulled inwards. It just felt sore but went away sometime in the middle of the day. I again ignored it.
On Nov. 29th I had just arrived to work and felt a little nauseous so I went to the bathroom to run my hands under the water and then I suddenly had a pounding headache and my vision tunneled again so I thought I was going to pass out again and squeezed my eyes shut and got down to the ground but did not pass out. At this point I was terrified and my heart was beating so fast that I was breathing hard. I called my boyfriend and had him pick me up to take me to urgent care as soon as possible.
About an hour later we arrived at urgent care and the doctors there ran a blood test and a blood pressure test but couldn't find anything out of normal. They told me to go the the ER immediately so that they could run more tests on my heart and my brain. Upon arriving to the ER they ran the same tests that Urgent Care ran and and EKG. The EKG came back positive so they admitted me to the hospital and had me hooked up to a heart monitor for the whole night. They also did blood tests every 6 hours. The only thing they found was elevated levels of Troponin I. The next morning they did an echocardiogram but I never heard the results from that. I was told to schedule an appointment with a cardiologist within a week of being discharged and to wear a portable heart monitor for 30 days, resume my normal routines, and record any symptoms in the monitor.
Since then I feel very normal but I have no idea what could be a symptom and what is not. I do feel much more tired than normal but I don't know if that is due to stress about the situation. I also get very out of breath when I talk to people. I am very confused about what this could be if it is anything at all. I just want to know any opinions on what this could be and educate myself as much as possible.
Thank you
