PROGRESS ON THE NESSUS PANEL. PARTIALLY SOLVED. ALL HANDS ON DECK

Discussion

#Partial Solved

https://imgur.com/a/q9Do6Km

Full credit to u/gnushoo for noticing that each word is under multple layers of encryption!

https://i.imgur.com/Nctlm3b.jpg Here's the nessus panel when looking through hammerheads sights. There are 27 lines over the runes, this corresponds to the 27 symbols shown in order on the Celtic knot maze map

The words that do not have lines over them are already solved by the 1st layer of encryption, using the rune to alphabet here.

Solved

1. In the fire of the forge all things began

2. we sought the greatest of an era

3. Many counterfeit hands hoped to imitate

4. we sought wisdom in those ages long past

5. Forged a fraud from the sun

6. Finally to craft truth from the moon

7. A thirst quenched by the last strike of the storm

Here's the method to the madness:

https://imgur.com/a/Es53uAJ

Ciphers Used:

Hand - Monoalphabetic Substitution Cipher using "VOLUNDRABCEFGHIJKMPQSTWXYZ"

Lizard - Caesar cipher with a +6 Shift (we have not found the key to confirms this one yet, we just brute-forced that is a +6 shift)

Sword - Anagram (Nagmaar)

Vegvisir- Playfair cipher using the crimsonaqutxkpezbdfghlvwy key

Ship- Rail Fence Cipher with 3 offset. (On nessus there is a ship icon with the word "beating" written 3 times.

Credit to u/Pirogoeth_ A n o n (not the nine) and u/ChiIIerr and many others from the raidsecrets discord for figuring out the vignere cipher!

Credit to u/certainpersonio on the raidsecrets discord for confirming our bruteforce of the ship cipher was a railfence cipher!

We're obviously not done yet! These sure sound like instructions....

EDIT: Final Edit:

We solved this entire puzzle, rewards Rasmussen's Gift emblem check the megathread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/raidsecrets/comments/a49zvw/black_armory_secrets_updated/

"from the moon" Let me guess, a wizard

AstroBearGaming•

We all know nothing else comes from the moon. So sayeth the ancient prophecy.

Ghost1sh•

That drops d2 Truth.

I miss that rocket. It was my first ever exotic. I think its be too op in the current PvP heavy ammo economy, but it wasn't too bad when you could only get heavy 1-2 times a game.

7
ChrikIt•

My first exotic as well, Fire-and-Forget as I remember it

4
AaronZaBaron•

I kinda hope not. I'd like to go back to the moon instead. Plus, another RL? Bring us back Zhalo supercell or something.

3
Redsohpex•

This has to be the order of the symbols on the walls cause it mentions hands, Moon, and storm which are all there

30
bardemic5•

Also mentions sun and fire. Only symbol not directly mentioned is the compass looking one

7
JediGameFreak•

"Sought" is probably the compass, as it's used on both the lines where there's no other symbol mentioned

2
WalkerDontRunner•

I could see wisdom being that reference as well since it's a 'pathfinder' or a way to find one's way

1
gnushoo•

Here is what I have so far UPDATED with some guesses!

1 bhqandbmn of the forge all things began

2 we sought the greatest of an era

3 gvhy counterfeit hands hoped to imitate

4 we sought wisdom in those age pfihrj ast (remove X?)

5 forged from a hard fut npsh (guess last word is ture)

6 finally to c mvdqqmsqa from the moon

7 A thirst quenched by the last s qmbenidq he storm x

We need the key for the HAND words

bhqandbmn

gvhy your?

pfihrj s long p? (spaces mine)

npsh ture?

mvdqqmsqa

qmbenidq

And we need the remaining anagrams solving.

ctonefur ce fortune?

etoptdiamtie ped to imitate

auofadrmhrft a hard fut

Not entirely sure this will do anything fancy as it looks like lore, but its been a fun evening solving it so far.

In the fire of the forge all things began.
We sought the greatest of an era.
Many counterfeit hands hoped to imitate.
We sought wisdom in those ages long past.
Forged a fraud from the sun.
Finally to craft truth from the moon.
A thirst quenched by the last strike of the storm.

11
gnushoo•

That looks like it - did you sort the hand words out? Was there a key or a straight swap of characters?

1
ThatTyedyeNarwhal•

The key was a backwards vignere cipher with Volundr as the key

1
DevGlow•

By ‘backwards’ do you simply mean you took the ciphertext and reversed the vignere cipher to return to plaintext?

1
ThatTyedyeNarwhal•

Im brand new here, but how do we know theyre anagrams? Isnt it possible that they still need decryption?

1
gnushoo•

There is a message on the forge on Nessus (which you can glitch into) that reveals itself to have lines above certain words. Another redditor suggested that the count of those words matched the number of symbols on the Celtic cross - so I started looking into whether the symbol order determined how we decrypt each word.

Initially, I had little to go on apart from a data mined code that looked like a playfair key and some comments that I saw that mentioned a Caeser + 6 code revealed certain words of the whole.

As I pieced it together I realised that all words that aligned with a compass image used the playfair key, all words that aligned with worm used the caeser key. I then started to see patterns in some of the other words, along with the fact that the sword had an anagram of the word anagram led me to use them as anagrams.

And thats about the best I can do without going over everything.

Rpaulv•

Thank you, I've been trying to describe this to the folks in discord, but this is a little clearer.

Works well!

1
Krooskar•

Very cool! Let's hope this actually turns into something cool instead of some sort of riddle..

8
MacOdaOP85•

Currently we think its both, a riddle that is telling us the order in which to [activate] the symbols (sun, moon, star, fire, storm, hand) that are found around the EDZ forge.

8
ToxicMoonShine•

Wait their is a symbol for both a star and the sun?

AeveryHawk•

this has me thinking, if you shoot the symbols that show up with the Hammerhead LMG in the order of what's shown here
"In the fire of the forge all things began" So you begin by shooting the symbol of fire that's on the stalactite next to the binary code hands
"We sought the greatest of an era"
"Many counterfeit hands hoped to imitate"
"We sought wisdom in those ages long past"
For these three, perhaps something must be spelled out by shooting the letters in the proper order, with these three sentences being a clue as to what to spell

"Forged a fraud from the sun" Shoot the sun emblem on the floor
"Finally to craft truth from the moon" Shoot the moon on the rock next to the sun
"A thirst quenched by the last strike of the storm" Shoot the storm symbol that's to the right of the busted bridge leading to the entrance, with it being the last thing to shoot as it's the "Last Strike"

Another thing, if you stand on the box marked with the hand right next to the forge, it's marked with a hand, and it allows you to see almost every hidden symbol around you.

7
MacOdaOP85•

thats what we are testing now! join up the raid secrets discord!

7
AeveryHawk•

aaaaa, I'd love to hop in immediately but, I gotta get shut-eye, my team and I are gonna go for that day 1 completion tomorrow! I'll come by some time after, I wish y'all luck ♥

5
bardemic5•

On the discord we have been trying

  1. fire 2) compass 3) hand 4) ??? 5) sun 6) moon 7) water/storm

We have been trying to shoot the letters for line 4 with no such luck. You can make Uldren with them so that might be something

6
DRayX17•

We may be focusing too much on the symbols, which are clearly important, but I think there is more to it. For example "ERA", "TRUTH", "FRAUD", and "THIRST" can be spelled out with the letters hidden around the forge. I also find it interesting that the second and fourth line both start with "We sought" and are the only two that don't obviously contain a symbol.

1
ToxicMoonShine•

The counterfeit hand makes me think you shoot the hand on the box and the ages past makes me think of the word dust which you can spell in the forge, its the second line that is getting to me.

3
aplax31•

You guys are straight up impressive

7
ManByTechnicality•

Seriously. I thought I was good at puzzles. Turns out I've been playing Varsity while these guys are going pro. I need to get better.

5
ChiIIerr•

Ship could mean decrypt by a factor of 3. It said the word beating 3 times so maybe we repeat the word 3 times or shift each letter by 3 in the alphabet

6
MacOdaOP85•

its a railfence cipher.

4
ChiIIerr•

Yup, I'm nezu btw

2
MacOdaOP85•

oh sweet i'll update you on the credits list!

3
gnushoo•

I initially went through that whole line of thinking too, but its fits nicely for the "qcune" word to be "quenc" to make QUENCHED. It could be a double bluff too, but to be honest I think there are many things going on - what we have here seems to have nothing to do with that ship, and a lot of the hidden symbols in the EDZ forge. I actually think this is a test to lead us onto the next lore hidden in the other two forges.

1
Cever1•

Sounds like direct references to the exotic machine guns from d1. Good job on the cypher, you all continue to amaze me

2
halide-07•

Hi, very new here, but I really wanted to pitch in. Someone mentioned this earlier in the thread, but I think its worth repeating - lines 5, 6, & 7 of this puzzle very much remind me of the how the Abaddon and Nova Mortis were referenced within the Thunderlord's lore tab. In this case, it seems like the puzzle is referencing all three, with sun = solar, mood = void, and storm = arc.
We know from data-miners that some of the black armory quests are time-gated and will last throughout season 5. This is complete conjecture, but do you think that all three guns may be involved in this puzzle somehow, later down the line? Or is it just coincidence?

2
bookelly11•

These totally pertain to the symbols around volundr forge

2
DramatikNote•

I feel like this is definitely leading to the Izanagi's Burden. Those last three lines reference the Sun, the Moon, and the Storm. Izanagi's children in Shinto mythology are the Gods of those three things.

Edited for clarity.

You people are my effing heroes. Seriously. There is way to much smart happening in this thread.

2
magicman457•

Do you think we might be able to write out the finished message by shooting the letters in the Volundr forge? Do we have enough heavy ammo for that?

1
Pirogoeth_•

unlikely, but this might give us clues about what symbols to shoot and in what order
