cheapest place for beer in downtown?

I'm going with my wife to a game at the LCA this saturday. We are new in town and on a budget and would love to have some beers before the game since I don't want to spend +$10 per beer inside the arena.

We intend to spend some hours in downtown before the game so we don't mind walking a little bit

Greenwich or Checker bar.

The Baltimore is the cheapest place I’ve found downtown.

That is what I posted last time someone asked and I got down voted! It's true though! And the Well if it is still around, haven't been down there in awhile.

The Well can get pricey on the weekends (I have no idea why people pay money to go to a shit hole?) but The Baltimore is always cheap

they always had $2 bottles on game days when I had lions season tickets. I've only been there once or twice in the few seasons since I stopped getting them.

There's a cool little dive bar I've been to downtown before concerts called Jacoby's. They usually have some good beer specials. Two dollar bottles the last time I was there...

Jacoby's is cool, I'm not sure that I would call it a dive bar though.

Fair enough! I'm far from a "night life" expert... Totally possible I'm misapplying the term here.

For cheap beer go to Midtown instead. Temple Bar or Old Miami are dive bars. Nicer places with cheap beer would be 2nd Best or Cobbs Corner. The only cheap places downtown that come to mind are Nick's Gaslight and Anchor Bar.

2nd Best

I'm not sure that I would call anything at Second Best cheap unless they reduced the prices lately.

When I have been they have had shot specials on a specific bottle and 40oz. High Life

Last time I was there the 40oz High Life was $15 which I believe comes out to $6/pint for Miller High Life...

Geeesh-that place used to be such a crack bar in the 90's.

Havn't been there since. If it is still around, I assume it has improved.

Founders is right by the LCA and their Class 1 beer options aren't really expensive.

If you want just explore downtown in general and don't mind drinking PBR, then just about every bar is cheap.

You could do a bunch of samples at 8 Degrees Plato rotating taproom a couple blocks up from the arena.

Checker Bar in Cadillac Square.

Harry's isn't the cheapest place, but it is very close to LCA. I second Greenwich or Checker if you just want a fun, cheap bar. Just FYI these two bars are about a mile walk from LCA. A majority of the walk would be down Woodward so that might be nice if the weather is tolerable. There is a lot to see in that one mile.

You can get a $4 craft beer at 8 Degrees Plato or Founders. Foods expensive at founders tho.

The new Bucharest has cheap food and draft beer.

Classic dives with ~$2 bottle beer could be Temple, Old Miami, Cafe DMongo.

Detroiter bar has 10 dollar pitchers and other specials. Probably the cheapest place
