Linux Gamers

[Discussion]

Hey folks. I was wondering if anyone has been able to run this game fairly good on Linux. Seems GPU passthrough on a Win10 VM will give the best performance, but I'm not quite at that stage yet with Linux. Wondering how Lutris or Steamplay may have worked out lately.

Thanks

It worked pretty smooth, stable 60fps on GTX960. I tested it before Steam Proton even exist. I didnt use GPU passthrough, just Lutris.

Right now I play FFXIV on Windows. I need ACT for callouts :)

I played it for a bit on Proton and it worked, but I got 45 fps as opposed to (barely) 60 fps on Windows. (laptop, GTX 965M) Your mileage may vary.

Lutris is working just fine. Just make sure you install the wine-devel version and have the game config use it.

You don't need GPU passthrough at all, I get within 5fps of my Windows performance on Linux. There are a couple of minor tweaks required to get good performance using proton, you can find them on the ffxiv page on protonDB.

Lutris is perfect for me.

Go for GPU passthough via vfio if you can. You'll spend some effort for setting it up and tweaking it for performance but it is well worth it. You'll avoid wine and it's bugs and needed work around for making games works.

I tried with proton on a 1080 and while it works, performances are not GPU passthrough level (also while fps are nice, i find the game no so smooth). Oh and on proton/lutris you don't get ACT so...
