Apple issues - Recommended alternative’s?

Like many others have reported, my Google WiFi setup hasn’t played nicely with the iPhone, MacBook, AppleTV devices in my home (9 Apple products even after assigning static IPs, disabling WiFi Networking Location Services, countless resets, renaming SSID, single puck, two wired pucks, etc. while 13 non-Apple devices work flawlessly).

I’ve gone back to my AirPort Extreme and back to ~20-60mbps when my Google WiFi was achieving ~150-250mbps... when devices would actually connect. I’d like to upgrade to a different modern mesh network router.

Has anyone tried any of the competing alternatives with success for their Apple devices? Any suggestions? Anxious to get better speeds again but don’t want to have all the frustrations again.

(For the record: this could very well be Apple’s fault, not Google’s, but I’m willing to swap routers and would not like to swap 9 Apple devices. Google WiFi has worked great in two other homes I’ve set it up in, including Apple devices).

Thank you all in advance!

PS: My phone autocorrected the title adding the apostrophe... be gentle!

We switched from Airport Extremes to Google WiFi, found it worked more reliably. Lots of devices both Apple and not.

Have you tried alternate Google WiFi routers? Like, maybe the hardware instance(s) are bad?

No issues here with 30ish devices, at least 50% Apple. iPhones, iPads, MBP, Apple TVs.

I wonder if you have some interference of some sort messing with your environment.

We have a ton of apple devices as I have 8 kids. We have ZERO issue.

You got something going on that is not being caused by the GW.

Agree. 4 homes, nearly 30+ apple devices total. Even more during family get togethers. No issues. I don't doubt that the OP does. Usual suggestions. Ensure ISP modem is in bridge mode, go back to one GWiFi puck and ensure that works before adding more.

All apple here and 0 issues. My parents house is the same way. Either check you unit warranty return if possible, but first make sure you reset all your network setting on you iOS devices. They need this yearly regardless of networking equipment. You will lose saved WiFi settings and passwords but it fixes most issues. I can’t tell if that’s what you meant by resets. Try wiping and reinstalling at least one of the apple devices to see if it acts differently. Also be aware there have been WiFi issues on iPhone 6s 7 and 8s. I’ve had to swap out my antenna on my 6s before due to signal issues.

Plenty of Apple devices here with no issues - MacBook, iMac, Mac Mini, iPhone 6, iPhone 8.

You might have a NAT conflict Specific what ip range is you Gateway using? 192.168.1.x??

Make sure you google Wifi is not using the same address range..

Mine was and I had all kinds of weirdness. Now I have att and a pace 5286ac gateway. I accessed the gateways DHCP range and rest it to the 172.16.0.x range...

Rebooted the Google Primary WiFi puck to get the new IP and life was back to normal... 19 devices (nest, apple, windows, etc) all working like a champ..

I say all this because I think apple AirPort Extreme uses 10.0.1.x thus not fighting with the gateway.

So if your gateway and google Wifi are using the same range to assign ips..

Try that

Edit.. mistyped

Excellent insight I’ll double check these things. Thanks so much!
