I (22F) have a strong aversion to my boyfriend's (27M) compliments. How do I begin to tolerate/enjoy them?

Backstory: I was a victim of ongoing physical and mental abuse as a child, and have spent years in therapy as a result. Naturally my self-esteem never really blossomed and is still very low.

I have a wonderful boyfriend who inundates me with compliments. My problem is that the compliments stress me out and make me want to push him away. This has made him sad and made me feel extremely guilty, but the awful feelings they give me can be really overwhelming.

I've read that low self-esteem often makes people extremely uncomfortable receiving compliments, and can cause them to avoid and/or push away the source of them.

My question is, has anyone experienced this and managed to find ways to boost their self-esteem? I want to be able to enjoy all his lovely compliments and feel like I deserve them. I just don't know where to start.
