Hi, I'm Matt, a solo game developer and university game development teacher trying to dip into app development. This is Sojourn. It's a journal/diary app that's made for the modern generation.
It's modeled after social media so the format is familiar and easy to pick up. Think of it like Twitter, but just for yourself. Basically you just post a single sentence or brief paragraph (a 'memory'), give it a color to fit the mood, assign a star value to it to note its importance rating, and you're done.
You can go into the memory later and add 'details' which are similar to comments on social media. This is where I encourage you to just start typing details out with whatever comes into your mind about this memory no matter how small it might be.
I believe that restrictions can bring innovation. Twitter restricted how big the posts could be, and we see how that turned out. Snapchat restricted the time that posts would exist. Vine (even though it isn't around anymore) was really cool because it only allowed for 6 second videos. The biggest restriction for Sojourn is that there aren't and never will be any social features. You never have to worry about accidentally posting something publicly, or sending a message to someone by mistake, posting something in a flurry of emotion and regretting it later, or saying something that gets you in trouble. You can post whatever you want and be incredibly genuine, which no one really does to the full extent on social media.
It's all stored using Google Firestore, so you just sign in with Google and all your entries will be there even if you hop between iOS and Android; plus you never have to worry about losing your data.
This sounds like a super cheesy tag line, but I really do think it'll make your life better as a result; it's made my life better. I think you'll feel better for venting everything out, and for me I can remember events in my life very vividly when I write them down this way.
Like I said, I'm just one person doing this in my spare time and I really believe in this product. I'm not great at marketing, so I genuinely appreciate sharing it online or through word of mouth if you like it. Give it a try for a few weeks, start putting all your thoughts in there, and see how you feel. Thanks for your support and feedback!
