Laptop died, Need to recover data from Hard drives

My laptop died, it won't even begin to boot. It has 2 hard drives. I bought a enclosure from amazon hoping I could just pop a hard drive in and my data would be there. Nothing is there. So I downloaded some programs hoping that I could recover everything. Most of the free one programs only let you recover 500mb or less which is really nothing. The files that the programs find are small files like a few kb, so that can't be my pictures or videos that I really want. I even tried test disk which is supposed to be really good but it never found anything. So is there anyway I can recover what I lost?
