[Iron Man 2] When Tony was building his reactor at home, would wearing an Iron Man suit help with all the heavy lifting?

I mean, there was a scene where he smashed holes on walls with a sledgehammer. A single Iron Man punch would have done the job.

I know that the Arc Reactor was poisoning him, but he had nothing to lose at that point.
