Thoughts on Edgedancer

SpoilerEdgedancer

When I first read Words of Radiance, and Lift got her first interlude, I didn't get what the hype was. She came off as ridiculous and horribly cringey for quite a while. I ended up liking her a little bit by the end of that interlude, but I was very skeptical that she could carry an entire novella on her own.

So, yeah. I was horribly wrong.

How can a character whose main quirks involve eating everything in sight and acting like an impulsive idiot half the time be simultaneously so deep? After just 40k words, I understand and enjoy her nearly as much as Kaladin, who has had something like 700k words to develop at this point (haven't started OB yet).

I'm just shocked that this tiny little book had so much packed into so little. Developing Nale, Szeth, whatever that hordeling creature was (I assume that'll be touched on again later?), deepening the politics of western Roshar, etc. WOW. There was so much cool shit in here, I can barely believe it.

Legit can't wait to start Oathbringer, I just have a few more days to get through finals and then I'm home free.
