Almost fell off at a schooling show... want to commiserate
I know this is petty but here goes.
I am an instructor and we had a schooling show at my barn recently. I had to school a horse that dumped a kid via dirty stopping in front of ground poles (!). She was super unsure when I got on her so I attempted to convince her until I backed off and let her have her head and actually inspect the poles. So I did not have ANY contact, was literally holding the reins at the buckles.
After a few seconds and looking and snorting at them she decides to LAUNCH HERSELF over them. I damn near ate it in front of the crowd because I was not at all expecting her to do that. It was embarrassing -- especially as an instructor -- but I suppose the great thing about horses is the constant humbling. As soon as you get comfortable... SURPRISE!!
We finished the rest of the course with no problems though. Haha ;)
