Pen experience?

I am seriously considering a Pixel Slate but there are none on display near me - can anyone please weigh in on how the pen experience compares to that on the iPad Pro or Surface Pro?

I will need it both for writing and creating some line drawings. Video reviews I've seen of the Slate pretty much gloss over this.
