Hot Toddy season

Per the Tribe episode a few weeks back, it’s officially Hot Toddy season. I’ve come down with the thing that everybody at work has this time of year, so it’s a great excuse to make some hot toddies to help.

I’m using Glenfiddich 12, a lemon-peel black tea, and some regular honey.

I accidentally stumbled on a pro tip that I’m really fond of! I’m lazy and don’t like waiting for water to boil on the stove, so I put my tea bags and water in a mug then microwave it. Well, this time I wasn’t thinking and added my whisky first. I paused and thought about dumping it, but thought “nahhh” and added my tea bags + water. I microwaved it like normal, let it steep, then added my honey.

The whisky character BLEW UP. I’m assuming that more alcohol evaporated during microwaving as opposed to adding it after having a chance to cool a bit. I know it’s just Glenfiddich, but it really tasted like I cut up a pear and dropped it in the mug.

I’m going to try it with some others, maybe a cask-strength Elijah or an Irish (an Irish might go from a subtle undertone to really influencing the tea?). Just thought I’d share my mistake and see if anyone else microwaves the whiskey in their hot toddy!
