Terrorism is overrated

Don't get me wrong.

Terrorism is a problem, but it is far smaller than most people realise. In 2017, roughly 19.000 people died worldwide through terrorism. Compared to the 37.000 fatalities in car accidents in the US last year alone, this is miniscule.

Yet the number of resources, both in military and police resources that is spent on fighting terrorism is immense.

Furthermore, the unilateral perception is, that terrorism is a big danger to society, while it is far more likely to be murdered by a member of your own family, than in an act of terrorism.
