And or Intel CPUfor gaming?

I'm looking into building a new pc soon, most likely in the new year and yes I'm aware there's some next gen rumors around the ryzen 3000 series, but as it stands now with say about $300 budget for a CPU should I be looking at mad or Intel for my CPU? I game at 1440p at 165hz and already have a 2080 gpu. I'd prefer 8 core 16 threads. Games I play right now are overwatch doom, battlefield 5. Upcoming games are cyberpunk, just cause 4, and the new doom game.
