I lost my daughter's bag in Disneyworld and it broke her heart

EDIT: I just got an email from the lost and found and it looks like her backpack was located! Thank you to everyone who sent in their offers for support. We both learned a big lesson, with the added bonus of a happy ending!

Much love!

We just came back from a week in Orlando, having spent six days touring the Disney parks. My daughter (7 years old) was so excited to trade her pins and get autographs from the cast members, and go on her favorite rides. We had a great week right up until the last day, with only a few blowouts that were brought on by exhaustion, crowds, and noise.

On our last day, she wanted to revisit Animal Kingdom to ride the 3d Avatar movie ride and meet the cast members she missed in the other parks. It was a perfect day, until we hopped on the bus back to the hotel. She left her backpack with her pin trading bag and the book with the signatures of the characters she'd met through the week on the bus and we didn't realize until we got back to our room. I had been diligent all week double checking that we had all our gear except this one time.

She is devastated, all the work she did trading her pins and standing in line to meet the characters is gone. Its killing me that she feels sad that she forgot her stuff but I'm wracked with guilt. At seven years old its almost expected that you will leave something behind and all I had to do was be a responsible dad and run through the usual gear check before we got off the bus, but I didn't. We filled in the online lost item report but nothing has turned up and honestly I don't expect it to. Most likely someone else found her bag, tossed her water bottle and kept her pins and book.

To some people these are just stupid pins and scribbles in an overpriced keepsake but to her they were fabulous treasures. She enjoyed meeting people and trading the pins and now they are gone which is sad enough in its own right but she is blaming herself and that's making it worse. I failed her.

Anyway if you made it this far, thanks for reading. Just needed to get this off my chest.
