Kindle deleting books on its own

I have a Kindle Fire 8 HD and I’ve seen to run into a recurring problem. Whenever I download books onto the SD card, they seemingly get deleted. Then when I try to read them I get the “DRM error” and have to redownload them. Is there a solution to this or am I just boned?
