Liking a girl until they show interest, but then regretting everything the moment they turn away

Background: I have a reoccurring issue with girls. A few months ago I started texting with this girl (let’s call her Sara) who I not only found extremely attractive, but kind, funny, social, confident, you name it, everything I could ask for. We wrote casually for a while but didn’t plan any dates or anything. After a month or two we ended up at the same club, made out, talked briefly, went our own ways and I fell asleep feeling pretty good about us. I actually kind of started to like her.

Now, here’s the turn around: The weeks following “the club night”, Sara became more openly interested. We started talking a lot about dating and while this should have made me excited, I instead started focusing on everything wrong about her. I instantly became very picky. She’s younger than me which I suddenly found a problem, she’s more into clothes than I which I suddenly found very shallow, and all contact we had became a sign of our incompatibility. But given I actually didn’t know her I agreed to a nice evening date together. We walked and talked for hours: laughing, telling stories, never having an awkward moment. Yet, every time she said something a little bit odd, I took that as a definitive sign we shouldn’t’ be together. The date ended and I left in a very yerkish manner, but still feeling confident not going for a kiss or second date simply because I didn’t want to. After that we have not talked. I started second guessing myself after a few days and tried to get a new date but she didn’t seem interested.

Now, a few months later, I don’t know what to do! All shallow traits I thought was wrong about her I don’t care about anymore. I’m loosing sleep imagining how good we could have had it if only I wouldn’t have let it go to shit. Now I think of Sara as the dream girl I mistreated only because she showed a little interest.

Does anyone here experience the same stupid rollercoaster? Liking a girl until they show interest, but then regretting everything the moment they loose that interest? Please give your opinion
