First timer advice

Hey everyone. Looking for advice on my first shotgun.

I’m just starting to hunt and am having a mental debate on what to get.

What I plan on hunting in likely order of progression:

• upland game
• waterfowl
• rabbit
• wild pig
• deer

Pretty sure I’m gonna get a pump action or O/U. Leaning toward a Mossberg 500 or a Remington 870.

What I’m unsure of is gauge. Seems like 12ga is definitely the most versatile, but I’m wondering about recoil (is this something I should even worry about?) I’m only 5’7” and 150lbs so I don’t want to get tossed around.

I’d prefer to minimize too many single function guns, so hoping to settle on one that will serve me well enough all around.
