Help on Deciding Whether to Transfer College or Not
I have just completed my first semester of college at Ga State and am looking for some guidance on how to best move forward. The first semester was incredibly easy, with minimal studying I got a 4.1 GPA. I had intended to do the Ga State 4+1 program where I graduate with a masters in economics in 5 years by finishing undergrad and masters at the same time. With AP scores and summer classes, I was told I could do it in 3.5 or 4 years. This leads me to my conundrum.
I had not bothered applying to Ga Tech senior year of high school because I assumed it would be to hard and I would not get in anyways. Better to save my $70, and Ga State offered me a slight scholarship. However, I am becoming increasingly conflicted between transferring to this far better school or staying at Ga State. If i transfer to tech, I will have just a BA with a 3.something GPA, and that's if I work my ass off.
I'm not sure which path will better take me to my end goals. Since I was much younger, I had always wanted to study policy at RAND corporation or similar. If that does not pan out, working in the banking or investment industry is also intriguing. As such, when hiring prospective employees, would a high GPA and fast masters at an okay school look better than a regular bachelors with average gpa at an excellent school? If I decide not to pursue studying policy, does changing to a business economics/finance/accounting make more sense? Thanks for the assistance.
