Should I avoid marijuana if I have generalized anxiety disorder?
As a preface: yeah I know reddit's advice isn't anywhere close to a substitute for a doctor's; I'm just curious about your thoughts.
I have mild GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder), and I'm prescribed Prozac (40mg) for daily use and Ativan (0.5mg) for rare moments when I am in a very stressful situation.
To give context, I've been pretty happy with how my life is for the past 1-2 years now, 17 years old right now and a fairly high-functioning student with 90+ averages. I've been smoking pot for a while, starting around 7 months ago. At the moment I smoke approximately once a week, and not even that much either, much less than a gram per week. As far as psychedelics go, biggest doses I've done are 50ug LSD and 20-30mg 4-ACO-DMT.
I have a fast-food addiction for past few years. I eat big McDonalds maybe once every few days, but I don't think I have that much of an addictive personality. I've tried Vyvanse that I got from a friend (maybe 10mg, I opened the capsule to get lower dose) a couple times to see how it works for studying, and it's been a couple of months since I've last touched it.
My parents keep giving me shit because they want me to keep weed to a once every two weeks thing cause they're afraid I'm going to get addicted. Their arguments are basically 1. I already have problems with anxiety and I may start self-medicating. 2. When I first started smoking I said I'd keep it to once a month and it's slowly been creeping. Reason why is once every month, two weeks, whatever is completely arbitrary and doesn't make sense to me. I've gone through times when I've smoked every day for a few days, but at the moment I'm holding back because I want to make my parents happy. You y'all think I have too much to worry about when it comes to being an addict?
TL;DR my parents think I'm going to get addicted and start self-medicating. What you think?
