How do you harvest without bruising them up?

When I harvest doing the twist and wiggle they come off with little bits of verm attached to the back of it, also I'm not sure if I should slice the tip off or not. But either way, they are turning blue everywhere I touch them and while I know they are safe , they wouldn't look appetizing if I give them to someone else. Also should I be giving them a rinsjng off before tossing in the dehydrator?
