Balanitis treatment?

I think I might have a case of Balanitis. (For those of you who don't know, it's a penile condition, with inflammation around the glans)

I've always considered myself to have good hygiene, however, I now feel so embarrassed and disappointed in myself. I feel like I've let you guys down for some reason. The condition is something I think I might have had for a long time already, never thought it was anything unusual, as I didn't really pay it any attention. But as I looked through the web and searched for possible reasons I'm convinced that it's balanitis.

As I understand, it has a fairly common occurrence, and can be treated by bettering one's hygiene. But in an article I found that discussed balanitis treatment. It was said that with only creams and prescribed medication it could be treated.

My question then is, is it possible to get rid of it entirely just by improving my hygiene, or will I have to contact my local clinic and arrange a meeting??
