Help me with getting my wife started!

My wife has always wanted to knit, and I want to surprise her at Christmas with a knitting kit!

I’m trying to find some stuff on amazon, but it all kinda looks cheesy and I don’t know if it’s actually halfway decent stuff.

What should be included in her knitting kit? What kind of yarn should I buy? How do you find patterns?

We just found out we’re pregnant with our first child too, so I’m sure she’d love a pattern for a baby hat!
