Can a state I no longer live in suspend my new DL?

About four months ago I moved to MI from FL. The week I moved, I changed my address online with esurance. I received an email informing me that I would need to contact them to get a new policy since I was moving out of state. I decided to look in to other options to see if I could lower my rate. Ultimately, I went with State Farm. A couple weeks later, I went to the Secretary of State's office to get MI plates, register my car and change my DL.

In October, I realized I never received any money back from my esurance policy. The email I received said they'd automatically cancel it, so I figured they'd automatically send a check. My husband called them to make sure it was actually cancelled, and of course it hadn't been. He cancelled it at that point and they sent me my refund.

Late November, I received a forwarded letter from the Florida DMV stating that my insurance company informed them that I cancelled my policy on a currently registered car in Florida. It said I needed to send them proof of new insurance, surrender my FL plate at a DMV, or prove my car was insured/registered in a different state or they were going to suspend my DL. We have two cars, both our names are on the cars, but the letter was only to me for one of the cars.

Can they actually suspend my DL? Of course the letter was thrown out in error, so I don't have a reference number for any of this to even send the documents they want. My car was registered in MI long before esurance officially cancelled my policy. Can I call esurance to straighten this out?

Any help is appreciated.
