How is it that you can walk into nearly any standard bakery anywhere in the county and find an almost identical selection of choices seemingly made with almost identical recipes?

Humans are generally shit at organising stuff so if this massive network of bakeries had been planned centrally to be like this it would never have happened without franchise-style enforcement, yet here we are without any of that.

And you can add to all this the fact that the proprietors of most bakeries don't have a perfect handle of English, which makes it even more remarkable.

I'm genuinely curious to know, anyone got any inside knowledge?
