[R/F] SPYRAL Egyptian Gods - AKA The Illuminati

Greeting friends, I don't know about you, but I LOVE reading 5000 word essays about gimmicky troll decks. So to all those as unhinged as myself, today I bring you the first in what may be a series of some of my fun pet decks - AKA how to take a real deck and make it terrible, gimmicky, but also fun?? Will these decks be good? It depends. Will these decks be trollsy and meme-worthy? Absolutely probably maybe... sort of.

Today's topic is Egyptian God SPYRALS aka The Illuminati: a secret cult that clandestinely gathers information from around the globe in order to sabotage their opponents. However, their real goal is to uncover The True Name of their ancient gods, and bring forth their return in order to achieve WORLD DOMINATION.

Objectives: Out-resource opponents by using Convulsion of Nature to gather info and abuse gimmicky "draw" cards and classic SPYRAL combos. Finish the job by learning The True Name to spam Egyptian Gods like it's no big deal.

Card List and Explanations

MONSTERS (15)

  • x2 each SPYRAL Tough and SPYRAL Super Agent

  • x1 each SPYRAL Sleeper, Master Plan, GEAR Drone, Quik-Fix, GEAR Last Resort and SPYGAL Misty (yes that's right)

Fairly typical SPYRAL core with the addition of SPYGAL Misty, whose effect has synergy with Convulsion of Nature. She draws us cards and can be very disruptive to the opponent, allowing us to stall until we see The True Name. If the gimmick of the deck fails, you can still always just win with the Master Plan - Sleeper combo, which is as lethal as ever if it goes off.

  • x1 each Obelisk the Tormentor and Slifer the Sky Dragon

The two Egyptian Gods that we run with one copy of each. Both are good and fairly easy to bring out in this deck. Slifer is usually the game-ender, as the win-con of the gimmick is to have an unreasonable amount of cards in hand (more on this later) and then to drop Slifer with True Name. Obelisk is good because he's untargetable and just shredded tbh. YOU NEED THESE IN THE DECK, if you draw them, discard them for SPYRAL effects. Once in the grave, recycle them with SPYRAL Resort.

  • x1 Watch-Dog

Awful card (even by MY standards). Searches Convulsion of Nature if you're extremely despy (happens with this deck sometimes). Madlads of the audience, replace this with Peeking Goblin, the best SPYRAL card and true mastermind of the organization (deep lore).

  • x2 Gishki Diviner

Part of the gimmicky "draw" engine. By correctly naming the top card of your deck, you can then add it to your hand - a guaranteed draw with Convulsion of Nature on board. You could run 3, replacing the Watch Dog, but he uses a normal which you may need otherwise. If you're blindly calling a card, always call Convulsion or True Name. Bypasses the draw restriction of Pot of Indulgence.

SPELLS (24)

  • x3 each Convulsion of Nature, Archfiend's Oath and The True Name

Main advantage engine of the deck. Convulsion allows you to freely proc SPYRAL effects, Oath and True Name. Oath is the same as Gishki Diviner, but doesn't need a normal so we run 3 as it's also not HOPT, so with Convulsion you can basically draw equal to the number of Oaths you control. True Name not only draws you a card, but drops an Egyptian God from the deck (they will die on the end phase though). Once you have 1 million cards in hand, drop a Slifer and go for game.

  • x2 each Pot of Indulgence, Terraforming, and SPYRAL Mission: Assault

Another small advantage engine. Indulgence is actually busted in this deck because the only extra-deck monster we care about is Double Helix, and we mostly ignore the effect that locks our drawing for the rest of the turn (Archfiend's Oath, Gishki Diviner and True Name do not "draw" cards). Assault is to profit off of Sleeper and the Agents, it is useful in grave to put tributes on board for the Gods (if you're a madman).

  • x1 each SPYRAL Resort, GEAR: Fully Armed, GEAR: Big Red, One for One, Monster Reborn, RoTA and Foolish Burial

All the One-of spells: SPYRAL cards and generic good stuff. I have a soft spot for the SPYRAL cards that no one runs like Fully Armed and the Missions (actually putting them on the field???). One for one doesn't work on Watch Dog (son of a gun) so don't do it, in fact just take out Watch Dog tbh.

  • x2 Prohibition

Card is actually hilarious in this deck, since you can (hopefully) always see what your opponent is going to draw. We're always spying, so use that info to hurt your opponent, learn what they're playing and lock out their key cards. If you're spiteful, just call the top card of their deck for maximal disrespect. Can stop handtraps.

TRAPS (1)

  • x1 SPYRAL Mission - Rescue

Extra

  • x1 generic good stuff (Knightmares, Bagooska for stalling, Saryuja).

  • x3 Double Helix and hope they don't get banished off of Indulgence (hurts but doesn't lose you the game).

  • X1 or 2 Sylvan Princess Sprite is a classic for keeping our 1 Quick Fix around. Her effect helps get to our troll cards, as we mostly run spells and traps.

Use this top-secret deck to pilfer your opponents darkest secrets and usher in a new glorious age of world domination under the ancient Egyptian Gods!

Thanks for reading, I am open to any suggestions, comments, questions or praise. Have fun out there!
