Is depression during Saturn return common?

I’m a year into my Saturn return and this has been one of the most challenging times of my life, in every sense (scorpio sun, capricorn moon, cancer rising). I know that during our Saturn return excruciatingly important work happens for us — has this process ever shaken any of you to your core, to a point of depression?
