Where to find correct letters while hacking?

For pre-text, I am great with hacking terminals. I know about the open and close parenthesis (symbols, brackets, what have you) and I know enough to guess 3 times and then start finding the aforementioned symbols, to give me a full 4 more tries and remove duds.

I do not, however, understand when the game tells you that correct letters will be shown. I have scoured the terminals and I cannot for the life of me find that.

Usually I guess and start noticing words with the same spelling in some places and notice how much are correct, and “build” the word in my head. It’s easy and fun, but I am HUGE on Fallout games and I feel like I’m missing out.

Any help?
