My friend has been getting drunk a lot lately and I’m not sure how to handle it
I (23F) have a friend (22F) who has been getting drunk a lot lately. She had this problem a few years ago too. She got the alcohol from different people who would buy it for her, but when the doctor told her that it was literally killing her, she decided to stop.
She has done well in that time, at least in the sense that she has a job and some friends. But she has a lot of mental health problems, only some of which I have an inkling of the extent of because she’s not the kind of person who shares things, even though we’ve known each other since I was eight.
I guess what I am trying to say is that I’m really worried about her. And part of my worry is a little selfish too because she’s my only friend. But I don’t want to help her so she’ll stay my friend, I want to help her because I love her and she’s my friend.
I hope I’m making sense. I’m just worried about her and I’m hoping you guys could help me look at this from a different perspective, or maybe find a way to help her in some way. We do live almost 400 miles away from each other, so there’s only so much I can do and her roommate, however concerned he is for her, tends to feed into her bad habits more than anything
If you need more information or anything, I’ll answer it if I feel comfortable. I wasn’t sure how much detail to put in this. She is also on reddit, so I had to make a new account because she knows the name of my other one and I’m not sure if she would see this
