Less Output = More Twangy Goodness?

I have a G and L ASAT Classic with a bridge pickup (stock near field magnetic type)

  • Particularly when plucking I was getting an awful, metallic, popping sound in the bridge and combination pickup positions.
  • I figured out this is due to the polepieces contacting the string. I have lowered the pickup to remedy this.
  • There seems to have also been the added side effect of giving it a more authentic Telecaster sound, which I love, and a better clean tone overall.
  • I am now quite certain that the factory setup was wrong, so I am continuing to adjust to make it as close to perfect as possible, obviously I will need to adjust the neck pup as well.

Does anyone else have experience with this? I hope this will help anyone with a similar problem.
