Using Aerogarden on a windowsill?

I'm excited about the hydroponic aspects of the aerogarden but i'm not thrilled about having a light on all day. My small apartment gets good light so i could probably place the aerogarden on a windowsill and get some growth.

If I don't want to use the grow light, can I place the aerogarden on the windowsill and get good results? Is the light detachable?

Has anyone tried using the aerogarden without the light?
