Can I play Gears of War 3 online cross-platform (Xbox One to Xbox 360)?
hi folks at Reddit Xbox One,
hope you're well!
I have a somewhat thorny question for you ...
Two of my friends and I are planning to set up an online network game of Gears of War over Christmas. This is a nostalgia fest as we all used to live in the same place and play Gears of War on a local Xbox 360 together (at the time it was Gears of War 1 and 2). We'd play co-op and competitive, drink beer and generally have a great time.
Now we want to do the same thing, but we are all located across the globe (as happens when you get married and have kids). One guy is in Texas, one in Sydney, and one in Canberra.
Two of the guys have old Xbox 360's and copies of Gears of War 1, 2 and 3. I no longer have any kind of Xbox (I have a PS4), but I do have a fairly beasty PC running Windows 10.
Here's my question: Ideally, I'd like to buy a Xbox One S or X and play network Gears of War 3 with my friends under backwards compatibility. I have a 4K 65" TV, so I feel like buying an old Xbox 360 is a bit wrong at this point.
But is it even possible for an Xbox One (using backwards compatibility) to play against Xbox 360's running old copies of Gears of War over the Internet? Or should I just go buy an old Xbox 360?
Let me know your thoughts. I used to be huge into Xbox but it's been a while, I have no idea what the compatibility matrix is now.
Thanks for your help!
