Ever since the 6.00/.1/.2 update my PS4 just doesn't take use of my Sound System.

My PS4 PRO (Original PS4/White PS4/White PS3 and Original Chunky PS3) have all been connected, directly to this sound system via Optical Cable (one end in the console the other in the sound system)

I've never, ever had an issue with it, I always got nice crisp, clear and loud sound. I stopped playing games on my PS4 for a couple months and all I remember was we weren't on version 6+.

When I got back around to booting it up and updating, games, music (via the media player) , the xmb sounds, Netflix none of it plays sound through the sound system apart from the left and right speakers, nothing comes out of the central, the rears or the subwoofer.

Even when I switch the sound settings around HDMI just plays sound out of the left and right speakers (with no hdmi cable connected between the console and the sound system) Optical Cable > Dolby again just plays sound from the left and right speakers with nothing coming out of the rest.

However, if I put a movie in the PS4 PRO the sound only comes out of the left and right speakers, until I change the audio via the movie control panel and then it plays out of everything like it did months prior.

Am I losing my mind or has something actually gone wrong, because I've switched cables and bought new ones and even swapped them with my optical setup on my PC (which all works clear and crisp with all wires) and I cannot for the fucking life of me figure out why this has happened apart from an update has somehow wrecked my sound.

It's pretty much killed my motivation to play, watch or even turn on the console

Sorry if this doesn't belong here I've never posted here and I'm pretty much lost. :(

Make sure you have the sounds set to optical out and also set to dolby digital

Edit: Just reread your post again and it's possible/likely you already verified this. Sorry if I'm no help.

Optical Cable goes from the PS4 PRO to the Sound System.

Sound options on the PS4 Digital Out (Optical), Dolby Digital 5.1ch. (Linear PCM 44.1 kHz and Linear PCM 48 kHz are also ticked but are greyed out and not options I can select)

Audio Format (Priority) is Bitstream (Dolby)

And I get very little from the sub, nothing from rear/centre but sound from front left and right.

And I get very little from the sub

Not what you meant, but a fitting statement about reddit.

UPDATE : After going into System Settings on the Sound System and disabling HDMI Settings it allowed me to put Audio Output settings to just Speaker instead of Speaker+HDMI.

XMB sounds, Music on the USB, Netflix is now all coming through the lot, instead of just 2 of the 6 speakers.

I don't know why I suddenly need to mess around with settings on the sound unit as I've had this unit for a good few years now and it's just simply been a plug in and off we go situation each time, as I said in the original post it has only been recently when it just suddenly stopped.

Thank you though, for those who popped in and offered help. Hopefully I can finally sit and enjoy loud games/music and movies.

Sony made it "better" in an update, obviously...

Only thing I can think of that you didn't specifically mention is to double check that your receiver mode is set to Direct and not some stereo only mode.

I'm not 100% on this, but I can have a look and check.

Can you quickly detail what your setup is?

Unless something weird is happening you shouldn't need to use HDMI *and* Optical. HDMI can carry higher quality sound too.

PS4 PRO connected to Bush TV via HDMI.

PS4 PRO connected to Sony Home Theatre System BDV-E3100 via Optical Cable.

And then the sound system has the speakers and sub connected to it.

Can you go PS4 - HDMI - Receiver - HDMI - TV?

How about sound settings? Is it on bitstream or LPCM? It should be bitstream if you want surround sound through optical. Your PS4 has no idea that you do not want sound through HDMI but through optical.

This makes me nervous - my wife just purchased some active speakers for me and I want to connect them via optical cable.

Please let me know if you find a solution, I would still use the speakers for monitoring but they have two optical ports so the PS4 could use some love.
