Why do you pump ToG so much? I can't really figure out what it is "unlocking" in any of the DLC. This is especially true where I see you put other religious DLC as "depends on style" (Sword of Islam), but not the pagan one? The pagans which are also unlocked in the supreme Holy Fury?

Part of it is author bias (I'm a practicing Norse pagan IRL; the editors cut that disclosure out in the final edit), part of it is the 867 scenario's start conditions, and part of it is me not realizing (since I already had ToG) that HF supersedes that functionality of unlocking pagan factions.

I recognize there will be disagreements; some folks killed me for overrating Monks and others stan hard for Reaper's Due.

I'm sure there's some gamer in Aztec war paint thinking I got it wrong too. Thanks for reading!

This is a really weird list compared to others. I'm suprised you don't like conclave at all, in my mind it's a massive improvement over the old system. Yes, it's harder, but honestly this game late stage is already too easy. Especially the child education, that's a big plus.

Monks and mystics isn't essential imo, apart from all the silliness it doesn't add very much. More of a personal preference that I don't like loads of random overpowered ridiculousness, just a hint instead to keep immersion.

I wouldn't say any of the ones you put on necessary are imo, other than way of life. If you play a traditional christian ruler then it's a game-dependent dlc surely, although I do agree charl and old gods (and holy fury although I haven't tried it out yet) are really good dlcs.

Oh and legacy of rome is really cheap and gives you retinues which are so important mid-late game, I'd definitely want it as a top priority.

And reaper's due is a really nice to have just for the symptoms, makes illness which is a big part of the game obviously a lot more immersive imo.

Thanks for making it though, can't get enough of these for new players to find out what they like to get more informed

Thanks for reading! My main gig's writing about the NBA, so I like to think I'm more of an outsider's voice when it comes to gaming.

Someone on r/AskReddit suggested I share this link here, I'm a sportswriter with a side gig writing about games. Hope the self-promotion isn't too awful for your taste, if so, feel free to plot against me with all the plot power you can muster...

how am I supposed to crave my enemy into a blood eagle if I don't have The Reaper's Due?

The problem with ranking 15 of anything where 14 are pretty good...

I agree with some of the choices, but Charlemagne is not that good, not to mention Reaper’s Due and Conclave are some of the best out there. Still good though.

As I mentioned elsewhere in this thread, there's going to be broad differences of opinions when you're trying to rank 15 things of which 14 are good. (still waiting for that one commenter to admit they love Sunset.)

Yea I understand, except some can argue that jade dragon is bad but still your right.

Jade Dragon was...disappointing, but if you're in that niche that likes to play on the far eastern fringes of the map, there's some meat on those bones.
