Can't communicate with local plex server no matter what

SOLVED

Hi, this is the error I'm having with a fresh install of Tautulli on a new server I just set up with Debian stretch: "There was an error communicating with your Plex Server. Check the logs and verify your server connection in the settings." I think I've tried everything by now:

  • fully removing the server from the list (so it gives a red triangle error or whatever) and re-add it
  • tried all options: local ip (192.168.1.1, 127.0.0.1) and remote ip
  • tried with and without SSL
  • tried with and without remote server ticked
  • tried getting a new plex login token in incognito mode

Only thing I can find out from the logs is that there's a 401 every now and then, but for the past 4 days (since I last touched it) there's nothing relevant I think.

  • I have tried fetching a new token as I said
  • secure connections are set to Preferred, and as I said, SSL or not, doesn't work
  • plex.direct URLs work just fine

You mentioned fetching a new token in incognito... Did you do it from Tautulli?

Also do you have the correct Plex Server Identifier listed in the settings?

Yes, using Tautulli webgui I fetched a new token (it didnt seem to change whatever I did when logging in to plex without incognito)

I wouldn't know where to check the server identifier, but I checked my plex logs and atleast in there the same hash is mentioned a lot. So yes? :D.

I can also see Tautulli in the authorized devices listing on Plex settings

You can check it by going to https://yourplexserverip:32400/identity

You want to make sure the Plex token changes when you fetch a new one.

Have you tried restarting your plex server and tautulli?

Bam, it works. Thanks!

I never got this wizard though and it never even reminded me about it, even when going to incognito? Come to think of it, it maybe because my browser history already was filled with :8181/home URL visits from a previous installation... (and I just type "taut" and it autocompletes that /home url)

You went straight to http://localhost:8181/home instead of just http://localhost:8181.
