Ah yes, Quinn

SpoilerSpoiler

I've been away from the game for a long time. Atleast two, maybe three years. Well, I had some time to kill this past month, so I hopped back in to play out some story content on my Warrior. Love my Warrior, loved being the Lord Wrath, don't so much like how he was shoehorned into this Eternal Empire storyline. Now I'm just the "Commander" with fairly generic lines. Anyway, I *just* got to the part on Iokath where you have the choice to accept Quinn or kill him. Now, keep in mind I've killed literally every other single person in this game who has betrayed me. But I choose to spare him here, for a very simple reason:

HE'S THE ONLY BLOODY PERSON IN THIS GAME WHO ACKNOWLEDGES ME AS A SITH LORD.

None of that "Commander" crap. He gives me a proper "my lord," as it should be. It's the sole reason why I am sparing him.

I regret that I have just one upvote to give.

Quinn also seems to be the only Sith Warrior companion to search for you after you disappear, romanced or not. Pierce gets transferred somewhere else, Broonmark goes somewhere, Light Jaesa goes to Ossus, Dark Jaesa just goes on a murder spree, and I guess Vette might have searched for you. But Quinn straight up says he got jailed because of his searching for you. For that, I'd spare him too, he's really proving his loyalty.

Killing him is one of the most painful deaths to watch, as well. It's right up there with Theron's.

SignorCatOP•

I frankly felt pretty terrible leaving him Theron there to die. My memory may be fuzzy going back 7 years, but I only remember one or two occasions where the dark side choice felt completely wrong. I never take the light side option on my Warrior, so it’s put me in those few spots where I felt I had to break character to continue forward.

Obviously, Theron had to be punished. He reignited tensions between the Empire and the Republic, while dragging the Alliance into the mess. Undoubtably this led to the death of hundreds—if not thousands—on Iokath, including his own father. Then his continued bungling and plot holes galore lead to the destruction of the fleet and our power. So, yeah, not great, Theron.

A third option in the chat wheel there would have been so welcome. Or the removal of the light side option and the opportunity to forgive him or punish him when you got back. Hell, let me kill him outright as a third option, while justifying my reasons to him for doing so. That would feel so much more Warrior to me.

RegaIado•

I'd kind of have to disagree personally with Theron being punished. As a Sith/Imperial mindset, perhaps, but personally, Theron never really betrayed us. If he hadn't done what he did, the galaxy would have been destroyed. The Republic and Empire were going to war one another no matter what, it was only a question of when. His actions did cause deaths, but far less than the alternative had he ignored it or went down a different path. He HAD to prove himself to expose this galactic-ending threat.

This was sort of Theron's story more than it was ours. He had to become a villain in order to save the galaxy, and we've heard that story before, from the same bloodline no less.

SignorCatOP•

We don’t know what the outcome would have been because we were never given the chance to put our vast resources toward hunting these people down. There weren’t many of them, and he knew who they were before joining them. They may never have become a real threat without his help.

The entire story was compromised by bad writing. Plot holes so large you can drive a truck through them. What it left us with was a character who acted recklessly and stupidly, the cost of which is great. Hell, when Satele writes you she says she understands why you did what you did.

I didnt care if theron live or died. But Quin..is different

Bears_Bearing_Arms•

I savored both deaths. And Koth. And Senya. And Arcann. And Scorpio. And Baras. And Vitiate.

I also Vette let die because I figured the alliance with the Mandalorians was more important than some plucky twi’lek slave.

Avengerr•

Currently replaying the SW story and I am debating killing him this time around. I kept him alive last run because he seemed to prove his worth after the betrayal thing. I would have killed him if I could have during the actual SW Story though, but after literally years in the KOTET campaign it didn't make as much sense to do so.

This run though I think I am going to take the "betrayal = death" route... We'll see.

Bloodygaze•

I did exactly the same as you for the exact same reasons.

I was unaware you could kill him at all during the main storyline. Years ago when I first played the SW story, killing him was not an option. Was this in Beta?

5
Faerthorn:Empire: Star Forge•

It was a beta thing, yes. It was removed prior to release. If memory serves almost every class had one companion that could be killed, skipped or otherwise permanently removed from the party (Skadge for the BH, for example) but players complaining that choosing to give a companion the boot meant that they couldn't do that companion's content led Bioware to remove the option.

I may be misremembering, but when I got to that point in late 2012 (almost exactly 6 years ago), I do believe you still could kill him. I've seen elsewhere on this forum where the ability to do so was removed due to people complaining about losing their only healer (Consequences? We don't need no stinkin' consequences!). Perhaps someone here can clarify for sure when the change was made.

4
Denimjo•

Beta allowed you to kill him. The players complained that their choice of killing their only healing companion left them with no healing companion (go figure) so SWTOR took the option out before the game officially launched.

Soldiers even competent ones are dime a dozen

Quinn is nothing special and is expendable in my SW's eyes, once they tried to betray you he's not trustable ever again

4
[deleted]•

I used to hate Quinn for the betrayal, but I've played through the SW story so much, he really grew on me. As a LS Warrior, I was forgiving. As a DS Warrior who is not a psychotic murderer, I value Quinn for the die-hard Imperial that he is. He only betrayed me because of his love for the Empire and I can't really fault him for that - perhaps for the failure to kill me, but not for his dedication.

35
ValenthyneThe Force Fights With Me•

This is the most level-headed position to take. I personally can't understand why so many are apt to kill him given the context of his usefulness and reasoning behind the betrayal outside of the wish to play a chaotic evil.

18
SignorCatOP•

I don’t play my SW as a psychotic murderer. Lawful evil, perhaps? That said, betrayal is never forgiven. Failure is sometimes not forgiven (depending on severity). I also killed everyone who tried to kill me. Obviously.

Interesting case: that one Sith Warrior Baras sends after you who tries to pledge himself to you after you defeat him. One, he failed at the mission his master sent him on, which makes him useless. Two, he so quickly is willing to turn on his master to serve you. You know he’d turn on you should the occasion arise. Three, he tried to kill me. No, son, you won’t be serving me.

9
[deleted]•

Rathari? Yeah, he's a wuss, though I have usually made him my minion. :)

3
OohLaLapin•

Plus as a LS Warrior, he’s got more reason to turn on you vs. the higher-up Dark Council member who saved his career/hide. He’s between a rock and a hard place, and you’re doing some weird shit while his old boss is telling him you’re a threat. Totally understandable.

I’ve got a SW who’s always nice to Quinn because A) Quinn can’t stop him.
B) Quinn is predictably a prick/backstabber so there’s low risk

I'll just say it. I'm a die-hard Quinn fan. Best romance by far. Welcomed him back with open arms and got emotional that he went to prison for me.

9
malekai101•

I spared him because at the time companions fulfilled specific roles. I needed that bastard for the heals. I needed that bastard and it killed me to spare him.

5
SignorCatOP•

You had no choice in the retail client. You haven’t been able to kill him since closed beta.

5
malekai101•

Didn’t it offer some choice though? I was at launch but not in beta but I remember there being some option and I was loathe to make the choice I did.

2
SignorCatOP•

No. Only Dark Side option was to choke him. Or throw him around. Whatever it was.

6
malekai101•

Ok. Sounds right. I was still pissed I didn’t do that.
