Class composition of the Communist Party of China
I found this report presenting official statistics on the class composition of the CPC's membership in 2017:
https://news.sina.com.cn/c/2018-06-30/doc-ihespqrx6865303.shtml
Out of a total membership of 89,564,000 (8956.4 万)
Farmers and fisherman 25,499,000 (2549.9万)
Retired 17,540,000 (1754.0万)
Professional and technical staff in private companies and NGOs 13,555,000 (1355.5万)
Managers in private companies and NGOs 9,487,000 (948.7万)
Staff of Party and Government departments 7,542,000 (754.2万)
"Other" professions 7,504,000 (750.4万)
Workers (skilled workers) 6,648,000 (664.8万)
Students 1,788,000 (178.8万)
What, if anything, do these numbers tell us about the CPC? Is it significant that "workers" only make up 7.4% of the total membership of what is ostensibly a worker's party? Does anyone know what kind of people would be covered by "other"?
I'd really appreciate any insight comrades can provide!
